Submission on Summary Offences (Tagging and Graffiti Vandalism) Amendment Bill
Submission by Children's Commissioner Dr Cindy Kiro to the Law and Order Select Committee on the Summary Offences (Tagging and Graffiti Vandalism) Amendment Bill. The submission was presented to the Committee on the 18th of March 2008.
The Bill amends the Summary Offences Act to "address the pervasive issue of tagging and graffiti in... communities... It seeks to provide redress, if not recognition for the impact these actions have on property owners and the wider community." The Children's Commissioner does not believe the Bill would provide "long-term solutions and benefits to the community". The Children's Commissioner submits that the Bill "adversely affects children and young people under 18 years."
