Children getting mix of good and bad in state care – Children’s Commissioner
Many children in the hands of the state are not receiving the quality of services they deserve and considerable effort is required to turn this around, Children’s Commissioner John Angus said today.
“We bring these children into state care because their parents have failed to keep them safe, secure and well nurtured. Often their health has been neglected and their education patchy. It’s therefore important that overnment agencies do their job well and meet the needs of these vulnerable children.

Children too often invisible in decisions about tax, welfare, housing and health – Children’s Commissioner
Too little attention is being paid to children’s interests in decisions about tax, welfare, housing and health, Children’s Commissioner John Angus said today.
“There are some big decisions being made in these areas and I’m concerned the welfare of children is sometimes not even part of the development of policy, let alone
given emphasis in decisions. There are serious consequences for many children if they keep being ignored,” he said.

Children’s Commissioner congratulates Maori TV on inspiring programme
Children’s Commissioner John Angus is congratulating Maori Television for its brave and inspiring programming over the last two nights on the subject of child abuse and neglect.
“Maori TV should be applauded for screening such a well-made and hard hitting programme in primetime,” he said. “Tamariki Ora: A New Beginning talked about the appalling problem of child abuse but also told inspiring stories that should give all New Zealanders a great deal of hope that we can do something about it.”

Children’s Commissioner launches Child Witness Report
