Children and Young People's Rights
Children and Young People's rights are human rights
If you are a child or young person (from birth to 18 years of age) YOU have the right to:
- have a say about things that affect you
- be treated fairly and with respect
- live with people who care about you
- an education
- be safe at home and school
- have enough food to eat, a place to live and good health care
- be protected from harm and abuse.
New Zealand families, communities and government must work together to make sure your rights are protected.
For youth friendly information on children's rights, check out Youth Voices: UNICEF Youth Voices, or go directly to a downloadable, child friendly copy of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child or to view a New Zealand version by our very own YOUTH LAW.
