Step Two: Gathering information
|
Step Two |
If further action is required the social worker will gather information from the key people involved before making a decision about what action, if any, should be taken.
| Gathering Information | |
|
1. |
The Child, Youth and Family social worker will gather additional information by speaking to the key people involved. If it is appropriate, this will include the child or young person. When interviewing the child or young person, it is good practice for the social worker to have a trusted adult present, such as a teacher, principal, or someone the child or young person knows and trusts. |
|
2. |
Other members of the community could be interviewed including family/whanau, staff at the school the child or young person attends, his or her doctor(s), the child's Well Child service provider, and members of their church or marae. |
|
3. |
When the social worker has completed gathering information, they determine whether or not the child is in need of care and protection. If they believe the child or young person is not in need of care and protection, the case will be closed and no further action will be taken. If they believe that the child or young person is in need of care and protection, the social worker will find an intervention that will best meet the care and protection needs of the child or young person. |
